This has been reported before but I am unable to reproduce it and diagnose it. The start button is supposed to hide when the task bar is hidden. Possibly the fullscreen app doesn't enable the full screen the correct way, causing the button to miss the transition.

What happens if you press F11 in Internet Explorer? Does the start button correctly disappear?

I'm still having this issue on Windows 10 with an NVidia card using the latest version.
I am using a PNG image as a "custom" start button as opposed to Aero or classic. When I set the start button to Aero or classic it doesn't happen.

That's weird. Aero works the same way as custom images.

Never mind that, it happens with all three settings, but not always. I can't pin down what makes it happen or not happen really.

I can add, though, that alt-tabbing out of the full-screen app, and then back into it, makes the start button disappear.
