Is there a way to change the user_documents command within Customize Start Menu settings to point to a location other than the Users folder, like the D:\ drive?

You can do that from Customize Start Menu tab in Start Menu Settings. Double click user_documents to bring up the Edit menu item dialog where you can do the changes Ivo mentioned (deleting Command field and specifying the new path in Link field).

Thank you. When implementing your suggestions, I discovered you have to use TAB to enter link field, as you cannot directly enter link field by clicking with cursor, which I had been doing and wondering why I could not activate field. Could this be an item that might be useful to fix?

Here's how it works. The Command text box must not have an internal command, either erase it to make the Command box empty or put a custom command there. Then you can must take the focus out of the Command text box so the disabled Link text box gets enabled. That can happen either by pressing Tab or clicking in another text box or a checkbox.
But your feedback is good. It's not clear to the user what must be done to enable the greyed out Link box. I agree it can be made easier. Maybe the Link field could be enabled as soon as the Command field's internal command is modified? That's how I think it should be but Ivo can decide that since he's the developer.
