about to deploy server 2012 R2 with classic shell. my ideal setup for logoff, shutdown options would be to have the default(in your face option) as logoff. both restart and shutdown options would give the shutdown dialog. menu style is not important. anyone doing this or have any ideas? of course id like this to be the default for all users. thanks in advance!!

There is no way to open the shutdown dialog with a particular action pre-selected. You only get one, and that's global Windows setting.
So there is no much value of having both Restart and Shutdown show the dialog.

Sure, then make a menu item that has the label "Restart", but a command "shutdown_box".

Since menu style is not important to you, use Classic with two columns. Go to Customize Start Menu tab. In the left column, scroll down and double click "Shutdown dialog" and change its Command to 'logoff'. Double click restart and shutdown and set their Commands to 'shutdown_box'.

You can also set the default action for the Shutdown dialog: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-set-the- ... indows-10/
