I'm using GPO's to customize classic shell in my domain. But for an unknown reason the automatic update policy doesn't seem to have any effect.

It doesn't matter if I confgure the policy: 'Enable automatic checks for new versions' as Disabled or as Enabled without checking the other checkbox. Other policy settings for Classic Shell work fine though.

Using that policy, do you want to disable the automatic update check or enable it?

To force disable automatic check for new version, policy must be set to "Enabled", Locked to this value and the checkbox "Enable automatic checks for new versions" turned off.

To force enable automatic check for new version, policy must be set to "Enabled", Locked to this value and the checkbox "Enable automatic checks for new versions" turned on.

Also, you must log off and login to your user account again.

How do you know it is not working? Do you see popups notifying you of a new version?

I did exactly this, but users still are greeted by a update notification a few seconds after logging in. As of now I disabled the update component to work around this.

Are you using "User Configuration" node of Group Policy or "Computer Configuration"? Only the settings under "Computer Configuration" apply to all users.

Download the Classic Shell Utility from here: http://www.classicshell.net/downloads/
Run it on a machine that has the problem, save a log file and send it to me
