Is there an option for Classic Start Menu to include the Desktop in its search?

I have some utilities that don't need to be installed (in fact, no installer -- just a Zip containing .exe with its dependencies, if any), so I just create shortcuts for them on the Desktop. Typing the shortcuts' name in Classic Start Menu didn't show them, unfortunately.

If Classic Start Menu doesn't currently provide that option, I think it would be a nice feature to add.

The start menu searches the path. If you add your desktop folder to the path then any EXEs in that folder will be searched.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing.

Certainly would be nice to be able to just check a checkbox rather than editing the Path setting ;)

(So, I'm classifying this as a "Nice to have" feature instead of "Need to have" ... but if it gets implemented, bonus points if it does the search recursively.)

If Windows Search indexing is on, the Desktop is already indexed. Any shortcuts placed on the Desktop will be searched but they will show up under "Files", not under "Programs".

If you want them to show under "Programs" in search, copy the shortcuts to %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. If you don't want them showing in the main menu's pinned area after copying them, change the "Pinned programs folder" setting to "Use Pinned folder".
