Post subject:  Pinned vs. Recent Items
I understand pinned items in Classic Shell and where they are located on my HDD. My questions is in regard to the children items that can be pinned in reference to the parent pinned item. Reference the attached screen capture. I would like to know where the Excel pinned children items are located. Are these entries in the registry or in a file on the HDD? I have been unable to locate them. The reason I ask is my HDD crash the other weekend. I had many pinned children items and would like to know which ones they were so I can create a backup preocedure in case of another crash.

Pinned items in a jumplist are stored at C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations but they are encoded. I don't think they can be backed up.

You can get to the files themselves by right clicking on the pinned item from the Start Menu jumplist and clicking "Explore". You could backup the original files.
