how do you enable and show list of recent and documents from classic shell. CLassic shell is configured in such a way that i have to select recent or documents and windows explorer opens up and shows me the directories contents.

i want to see the list show up from the shell when i hover over recent or documents.
1) how is it set?

2) is there documentation where i can read about all settings?
