Post subject:  Multi-column Desktop folder?

Is there any way to make the Desktop folder in the Classic Shell Start menu use multiple columns? Makes no sense to have one column and scroll when I have a ton of screen space.

1. Go to the Customize Start Menu tab in Classic Start Menu settings.
2. Add a Custom item if you haven't already. Double click the icon of the "Custom" item to bring up the "Edit Menu Item" dialog.
3. In the Link field of the Custom item, specify: %userprofile%\Desktop
4. Check the option "Multi-column" and click OK everywhere to save settings.

Very helpful; thank you very much. I had not used custom items before.

Is there any way to get rid of the old "Desktop" entry? I'm not seeing it in the configuration anywhere, including on the "Special Items" tab.

Figured it out. Just had to right click it within the CS Start menu and select "Unpin from Start menu (Classic Shell)".

I'm trying to do something similar with my Control Panel folder, which is slightly overflowing the boundaries of my screen. It looks like I can switch the normal command to multi-column, but when I do that, I end up with the first column exactly filling the screen and the second column only having a single element. Is there any way to force the columns to balance out?

There is no way as of Classic Shell 4.2.4 to balance the columns so an equal number of items are shown in all columns but that is an interesting idea.

That's a good suggestion. It would make the menus look better and be easier to use (less eye and mouse movement).
