I upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1 (using classic shell 4.0.5) I downloaded classic shell 4.2.4 and installed my personal backup of the classic shell menu I'd made in win 8.1. The effect of this made me very happy - and it lists the "apps" separately from the "real" programs - making it really easy to find what I wanted. Didn't have to re-configure anything. Really easy. And elegant. Also added win 10 start menu icon to task bar to display apps I do plan to use and live feeds on news and weather. Really liked this set up. Was clean, easy, beautiful and could instantly find whatever I wanted and open files nested 5 deep. Would have kept it if Chrome and Firefox had worked . But they didn't. Online banking and credit cards did not work in them. Shopping carts on several major sites didn't work. Edge browser only imported half of my book marks from Chrome, none from firefox. Did not work well - depends on using stock microsoft contacts and mail. Decided for these reasons to go back to Windows 8.1 within the 30 day rollback period, although I liked the virtual desktop feature. But forced updates of not-fully-developed programs was scary to think of and I really NEED Chrome and Firefox. Would rather have Chrome than Cortana.


I decided to go back to windows 8.1 (which I had well tamed with the Classic Shell Menu).



I did the rollback. It seemed to go ok.



After rolling back an immediate blurb came up saying I needed windows updates. I clicked install now. Thought it was part of putting things back.......



But my old shell menu in windows 8.1 did not work.

I went to download Classic Shell again and was repeatedly unable to install it. Message about being unable to locate a file(Init Mangers @@ YAXXZ could not be found in dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Classicshell\classicstartmenu.exec). (Believe this was not an accident - think Microsoft turned it off permanently). Finally went to one of the other install archieve sites and installed earlier version from different install site (either classicshell pdb_4_0_0 or 4.0.0-it) and I installed my customization from my pre windows 10 last classic shell settings backup......and my shell menu kind of came back but headings all had letters "smenu " in front of my headings. Not pretty, but working with all my customization......went to bed.



To my horror Windows automatically re-downloaded the update containing windows 10 .......and automatically installed it.



My Shell menu did not work at all -any of the three versions I'd installed on this computer. New windows 10 version can't be installed now. Installation aborts.

Tried going into the install/delete programs of the control panel. In "delete programs" area, the old initial classic shell program I put in in 2014 (4.0.5 installed 4/3/14) shows up but "windows is unable to delete it".

Help!!!!! Please, please HELP !!!!! I can't use this windows 10 crap menu. I want my shell menu back. Somebody pls help me!

Try uninstalling the old version with the classic shell utility, if you cant otherwise uninstall it
