Does CS have to be disabled before upgrading to Windows 10? Or just leave it on as usual during the upgrade?
I don't want there to be a conflict.
Thanks.

No you can leave it as is and after Windows 10 setup completes, it should configure itself. Just make sure you install the latest Classic Shell version before moving to Windows 10.

I'm interested in knowing what will happen if Classic Shell is not on the latest version before upgrading to Windows 10. I have installed CS on a number of PCs that I have built for friends and family who are not tech savvy.
I imagine that if they go ahead and upgrade their OS, CS will simply not function, but they will be able to use their PC with W10 in its vanilla state, without problems?

If you have Classic Shell older than 4.2.0, Windows will uninstall it.
Otherwise after you upgrade, Classic Shell will pop up asking to set itself up for the new OS. It should work fine afterwards. However older versions than 4.2.3 will have limited functionality as they were built for older versions of Windows 10.
