I just had to reimage due to an SSD failure. Running Windows 8.1 and Classic Start Menu. I had a feature before that I really like but I can't figure out which setting controls the feature (and I suppose it could be Office or CSM). For MS Office shortcuts (Word, Excel, etc) I had 'automatic' submenus appear with recently opened files. I could then pin 'favorites' so that they remained at the top. What's the magic setting to re-enable the recent files lists? I've searched this forum to no avail. |

This feature is called jumplists. First right click on your Taskbar and click Properties. Go to the Jump Lists tab and enable the option "Store and display recently opened items in jump lists". Also make sure "Store recently opened programs" is checked. As you launch programs over time (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and open their documents, both should appear in the Start Menu. You can also pin a shortcut to your favorite program to make it stay in the Start Menu. Once the document appears in the jumplist, you can pin it to the top too. |

Got it - Thanks; I was spending too much time in the Start Menu options, not enough on Windows... |

Yes there are some settings/features of the menu which depend on Windows settings such as jumplists and recent documents, frequently used programs, highlighting newly installed programs and file search. |
