I want to search "Internet Download Manager" program from the search box in the start menu.
Normally, with built-in Windows search, I type "idm" and it still suggest me the "Internet Download Manager"
But with the search box in start menu, I must type "Inter..." to display that. Type "idm" doesn't work.
Does this Classic Shell version have this function?

I tried "idm" on the Windows 7 start menu and it doesn't find it. Why would it?

This seems to be a feature new to Windows 8.1 (I don't know about Windows 8 RTM). And it's a shock that the Windows 8 series actually improved on something! :D :P    :o

The EXE name for Internet Download Manager is idman.exe. This is being searched by the Start screen so typing idm is returning it in search! It doesn't seem to be indexing the link targets because when I stop the "Windows Search" service, it still shows the shortcuts when you type the process name.

I tried this with another program that I have installed called Resource Hacker.

Typing ResHacker in Classic Shell's Start Menu or in the Windows 7 Start Menu returns nothing. But typing ResHacker on the Start screen makes the "Resource Hacker" shortcut show up which means it is searching the target field of a shortcut. Or you could try with Classic Start Menu's EXE itself. Windows 8.1's Start Screen shows results even if you type ClassicStartMenu.

@phibao37, thank you for letting us know about this feature! Because Microsoft can't maintain any continuity between their products, such useful features are not advertised, nor do people realize how many features are silently deleted or unintentionally broken. The Start screen actually lost many search abilities that the Start Menu had, so to discover that they've added another useful feature is a pleasant surprise.
