The official Microsoft answer is to disable and re-enable the feature to clear the list. How do I do it with Classic Shell? Almost all my items are highlighted and they're not normalizing over time. |

The feature in the start menu uses the frequent usage data stored by the OS to determine when a program has been used. If that feature is disabled, then the highlight will stay for 48 hours. Version 4.2.0 of Classic Shell has a fix that disables the highlight if the usage data collection is also disabled. If you want to disable that feature permanently, uncheck "Highlight newly installed programs" from the General Behavior tab. |
