In short, I'd like to hide the "Search" shortcut in the start menu. It hides all the other metro apps, but not this one. Is there a way to do this?

You can try hiding the shortcut. Right-click -> Properties -> Hidden.

I don't recommend deleting it. The shortcut is most likely used by the system to support the search features.

If only it were that simple. It does not allow me to do so, the same way it blocks you hiding the other metro apps that way.

Ugh. Windows is trying to be sneaky. See if you can do it from a command prompt using the "attrib" command.
If that doesn't work, you are out of luck, unless you want to try deleting it (or moving it someplace safe).

Heh, I also tried the attrib command. I guess I am out of luck. :(

No way to get classic shell to hide it like it can the other apps?
