Post subject:  At startup display is washed out and faded until readjust

Hi There,

Hoping someone can help me with an issue I can't find an answer for. I am running Windows 8.1 on a laptop with Classic Shell version 4.1.0. Laptop is setup to automatically boot to the Classic Shell desktop.

Issue is everytime I boot the laptop the display is initially clear and crisp. This lasts for only a second or two and then it turns washed out and faded. What I need to do is go into Personalize -> Display -> Calibrate Color and set the Gamma darker. I also have to readjust Clear Type Text.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Check and see if it still does this when booted into safe mode? it sounds like something is trying to override your settings when it loads (not classic shell)

If it happens about 10 seconds after login, then it is most likely a program that runs on startup (there is a 10-second delay for startup programs on Windows 8.1). Check the Startup folder in the start menu and the Run registry keys. Programs like Photoshop tend to install some commands that mess with the color profile.

Thanks for the suggestions Jcee and IVO.

As suggested, I looked at the Startup and Scheduled Tasks and under Scheduled Tasks there was an item called ASUS Splendid ACMON. Seen the MON and thought it could refer to monitor so I disabled it.

Bingo, the display remains the same after bootup.

Take care
