There's a big optional Windows Update available now: KB300850

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3000850

This looks like the rough equivalent to the "Spring Update" we saw early this year. Only thing is it's NOT required to enable further updates this time around. But it does list a lot of fixes, etc.

Problem is, Classic Shell, which was installed before the update, now seems to be partially broken.

For example, clicking on Settings > Control Panel just hangs for minutes on end, and ultimately turns up nothing.

Also, logging off causes things like this:

I'm going to try things like using Repair for ClassicShell and uninstalling/reinstalling next.

This was seen. Note specifically the disturbing mention of "ImmersiveControlPanel"...

An attempted restart hangs with the spinner and "Restarting" on the screen.

OK, this issue may not be related to Classic Shell at all...

I noticed Avast Antivirus was not shown in the system tray, so my suspicions turned to Avast as the culprit for many problems. I finally managed a full uninstall using Avast's own "full removal" tool, AvastClear, and lo and behold I can open the Control Panel menu again.

I'm sorry for the false alarm!

After I installed this update kb 3000850, the shutdown button partially works, when I click shutdown under the start button options, the screen goes blank but the light under the power button stays on. by the way great program, never had a problem until this MS update.

Yes, as someone else reported here on our Facebook page, Avast seems to be causing it for those with the November 2014 rollup installed.

I did not have any issues with Classic Shell on Windows 8.1 after installing the November 2014 update rollup since I am using only the stock Windows Defender AV.
