I want to add a program to my Classic Start Menu. I am pretty sure I used to do this by clicking the Start button, then All Programs, then right clicking on the folder I want the program shortcut in, then clicking on New Shortcut and telling it which program. When I do this now, the shortcut is created (I am not sure where) and it is pinned to the Start Menu. But it does NOT APPEAR in the specified folder under All Programs. And if I right click on it in the Start Menu and tell it to unpin it, the shortcut, as best as I can tell, is gone. I know how to do this by creating the shortcut manually and moving it to the Start Menu folder manually. But am I only imagining that something like the process I described used to work? I am running Windows 8.1 and Classic Shell 4.1.0. |

You have to click on an item inside the folder and then select New Shortcut. The shortcuts are created in the same folder as the clicked item, and not inside it. |

Meaning you must right-click on an existing item inside All Programs to create another shortcut there. Or if you are using a cascading style menu with multiple columns, right clicking on a blank/empty area inside All Programs will also work to create a new shortcut there. Since the "Programs" folder is part of the "Start Menu" folder, right clicking on the "Programs" folder itself (not inside it) naturally causes the item to be pinned to the Start Menu. |
