I'm running the latest version of classic shell (4.1.0 atm) on Windows 8.1. The start menu is great and looks like windows 7, but since I haven't used windows 7 in a while I can't remember how to edit the columns of apps on the left side. Classic shell is running it in windows 7 style. How do you make apps on the left side of the start menu only show pinned apps while remaining the default size? Every time I pin apps it increases the start menu size. How do I change this? Also, whenever I remove the apps that show up in the menu (the ones that appear below the pinned apps) new ones replace them. How do I keep new ones from appearing? I only want apps that I have pinned to appear in the start menu, and to keep the start menu the default size. If you could show me how to do this it would make life easier for me. Sorry about the long post. |

Right the Start button -> Settings. Type: 'recent' into the search box of the Settings dialog. Under Recent/Frequent apps, click "Don't show" to turn off recently/frequently used apps in the left column. Now you will only see pinned apps. Type: 'height' into the search box to set the minimum height. The maximum height will vary depending on the number of programs you have pinned. |
