I am trying to learn how to compile programs and when I try to compile the code I keep getting a few errors. Is this the right place to ask for help with this? If it is I will post my error here. Most are the same thing.

Sure, ask away. For best results use Visual Studio 2008 with Windows SDK 7.1

Doesn't seem like the 7.1 SDK is registered with Visual Studio. ChangeWindowMessageFilterEx is a Windows 7 function and doesn't exist in SDK 6.0.
There should be a tool as part of the SDK that can register it with Visual Studio.

This sounds like a question for the WiX forums.
I myself use WiX Editor, which comes with some version or WiX. However I'm developing on Windows 7, not sure if there aren't any installation problems for Windows 8.
