Hi, I really hope you can help me, because I don't know what to do. I installed the classic shell start button somewhere in september and it made me really happy because I didn't like the way windows 8 works. recently I updated to Windows 8.1 (I postponed it for a while) Immediately after installation and the required start up the following happens: I log in, it shows the desktop and in the left bottom corner it shows the new Windows start button, but then in flashes it shows the shell button. it alternates within seconds and the rest of my computer pretty much freezes. It doesn't respond when I click on anything. I tried shutting classic shell down through the task manager but my computer remains unresponsive. due to the fact I cannot click on anything I cannot uninstall classic shell. After a few start ups, it somehow sorted itself out and classic shell was up and running again. But now windows enforced an update and i have the exact same problem, only now it's not sorting itself out. I'm surprised because no one else seems to have this problem. I haven't looked after classic shell updates since I installed it so maybe that's the difference? But even so, as long as I can't get my laptop to start up, I can't install any updates. Does someone have a suggestion of what to do? I hope someone can help because I am lost. Thank you! |

Do you have the latest Classic Shell version installed, 4.1.0? Download the installer from http://goo.gl/jKNi0W. |

Yes, looks like you are running a pretty old version. The first version to support Windows 8.1 well was 4.0, and it was released in October. |
