Which image are you using for the Start button image? It shouldn't be a single image but must contains 3 states - hot, hover and pressed states. Like this:

I am currently having trouble changing the start button icon in classic shell. On the screen where it shows where you pick a custom icon, the icon only shows up halfway and when you click ok, nothing happens. The menu I have is the windows classic menu. |
