Post subject:  Windows 8.1 new Update

I have been a happy user of Classic Shell for two months now, ever since i upgraded to win8.1
and discovered that im not a metro man!
Have just installed the new update for 8.1 and Classic Shell came through unscathed!
I have heard about the "new" start button, but im so happy with Classic Shell that im just going
to keep using it

Thanks for a great product!

a happy happy Classic Shell user :D

Hi

Also very happy with Classic Shell, not so much with Windows 8.1 Update or windows in general. I cannot get my stylus (mouse) to activate the task bar. Now have to swipe down on the touch pad. Any fix for this?

Thanks

Can you activate the taskbar with a stylus without Classic Shell being installed? Is your taskbar at the bottom of the screen?

I installed Update 1 on my Surface tablet. It appears that the only way to show the taskbar (aside from Win+T) is to move the mouse to the bottom of the screen and then drag even further. This is not an action you can do with a touch device (like stylus or finger). It also doesn't work over remote desktop because the mouse motion outside of the screen is not transmitted.

Either way, from what I see the behavior is exactly the same with and without Classic Shell.

If there was a way to force the Taskbar to always show and not auto hide, that would be awesome.

No, it will cover the bottom portion of the apps.

So what it covers, the app designers can redesign the app around that gradually. It's the same for the title bar. I can't stand the taskbar disappearing. Besides, for "Small icons" taskbar, it's a very thin area.

It is not realistic to expect app designers to change their apps to account for the taskbar covering their area. The taskbar can be on any of the 4 sides, be any size or be auto-hidden.

Yep, Classic Shell works perfectly with Win 8.1 Pro x 64 Update 1 on my machine :D There was no need to do anything with Classic Shell after the update. It works seamlessly, so that having 8.1 Update 1 installed is OK because all of the Win 7 functionality is there, and the Metro interface remains an occasional diversion so you stay up to date with security patches for years to come, and booting is quicker. So far, finding something useful about Metro is pretty hard. I find that Microsoft's latest interface and live tiles are there to manipulate your use of the internet, offering up news, sport, fashion, games, food and health tips of Microsoft's choosing, instead of allowing you to search openly to pursue your own interests as with Win 7 (and Classic Shell installed with 8.1). Not to mention Microsoft's persuasion in the live tiles to keep on buying, even when stuff from the MS Store appears to be free. Anyway, thanks for a seamless open, and highly customizable interface over the top of a faster operating system :P I recommend Classic Shell to everyone ;)

I love Classic Start menu and I found it the day after I installed Windows 8 the first time.

I was here search for how to get the auto-hide to work.
I have the check-box checked for Auto Hide the Task Bar but it never goes away and get in the way of some programs like Excel when I need to see the total, etc.

I was reading and someone asked if they could turn auto hide off totally and the answer was no but I cannot get mine to auto hide LOL

I am on Windows 8.1 and I am using a single Monitor.

Any suggestions for me to try?

Thank you!
Ron
