Hello, all..

I've started looking at Classic Start Menu to make Win8.1 less of a torture for our users.

I'd created a GPO which has the COMPUTER settings to include an option to hide the "Settings" menu on right click.

And it doesn't appear to be working? Or, rather, I can't get "Settings" to go away :)

I've verified that the GPO is in place - the HKLM\Software\Policies\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu exists
The value EnableSettings is set to Reg_Dword 0

Other settings within the GPO are applied.

I've checked:
HKCU\Software\Policies\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu - it doesn't exist (as I've not used the "User" section of the GPO - just the Computer)
HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings - it exists, but there's no "EnableSettings"
HKLM\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings - it doesn't exist

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu]
"AllProgramsMetro"=dword:00000000
"AutoStart_State"=dword:00000000
"AutoStart"=dword:00000001
"CheckWinUpdates"=dword:00000000
"Computer_State"=dword:00000000
"Computer"="Hide"
"ConfirmLogOff_State"=dword:00000000
"ConfirmLogOff"=dword:00000001
"DisableHotCorner_State"=dword:00000000
"DisableHotCorner"="DisableAll"
"Documents_State"=dword:00000000
"Documents"="Menu"
"EnableExplorer_State"=dword:00000000
"EnableExplorer"=dword:00000001
"EnableStartButton_State"=dword:00000000
"EnableStartButton"=dword:00000000
"GlassBlending_State"=dword:00000001
"GlassBlending"=dword:00000001
"GlassColor_State"=dword:00000001
"GlassColor"=dword:00000001
"HideUserPic_State"=dword:00000000
"HideUserPic"=dword:00000000
"StartButtonType_State"=dword:00000000
"StartButtonType"="AeroButton"
"EnableSettings"=dword:00000000
"MenuStyle_State"=dword:00000000
"MenuStyle"="Win7"
"ControlPanel_State"=dword:00000000
"ControlPanel"="Show"
"EnableExit"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownW7_State"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownW7"="logoff,lock,restart"
"ShutdownCommand_State"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownCommand"="CommandLogOff"

Am I missing something really obvious?

You must exit the Start Menu by right clicking the Start button -> Exit and start it again from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe for the policy settings to take effect.

You are missing the value "EnableSettings_State"=0. It should be created automatically if you go through gpedit.

It isn't being created.
The registry key I included is a full export of the PC which is running with the GPO.
You can see that EnableSettings is at 0, but there's no EnableSettings_State.

In reply to the other email, I meant to say that I've stopped and started the Start Menu. I've also rebooted and logged in as multiple different users.

Ah...

I think I have it sussed.

I had the GPO value at "Disabled" - which I assumed meant that the feature would be - well - disabled :)
I set it to "Enabled", "Lock" and left the checkbox unchecked, and it works - the EnableSettings_State value is applied.

False alarm :)

"Disabled" for policies means "disable the policy", which is basically the same as "don't do anything".
It doesn't mean "disable the feature that the policy controls".

Got it...
I've gone in and changed my "Disabled" features to "Enabled" and Locked unchecked :)

Thanks for the help.
