On a standalone machine, are there any advantages (or disadvantages) to setting the program configuration (both Start Menu and Explorer) through Admin Templates? TIA |

The settings UI only adjusts the settings for the currently logged in user. Also, the settings are not locked down/enforced when configured from the UI. Policy settings on the other hand are enforced meaning you can't change them from the UI if you set them in Group Policy. Also, the Group Policy Admin Templates for Classic Shell under "Computer Configuration" affect all users so it's an easier way to adjust settings than direct registry editing for all users settings. |
