Hi I have 4.0.2 and wanted to update to 4.04., got that missing msi file error. I tried: When uninstalling or upgrading I get an error about a missing MSI file. What do I do? Windows keeps a copy of the MSI file in its C:\Windows\Installer folder. If the file is missing or corrupted, the attempt to uninstall or upgrade Classic Shell will fail. Before you can continue you must repair that file first. You do that by running the installer for the same version you currently have, with the following command: ClassicShellSetup.exe /fv %MSI% This will repair the cached copy of the MSI file and after that you should be able to uninstall or upgrade Classic Shell. but as soon as installer starts it closes, is there any other way to uninstall old version? Thanks |

Instead of the command line switch, try just double clicking the installer of 4.0.2 and see if it gives you the option to uninstall. Btw, do you have some cleanup program installed like CCleaner etc? Something must've deleted the cached MSI. Normally, it shouldn't happen unless some program deletes files from C:\Windows\Installer folder. |

Run the installer for 4.0.2 with the extract64 parameter (or extract32 if you are using a 32-bit OS): http://www.classicshell.net/faq/#install_commands When it asks about the missing MSI, point it to the file you extracted, or copy the file to the location where it says the MSI is missing. |
