Post subject:  Drag and drop issue when arranging start menu programs

Classic Shell 4.0.2 and Windows 8.1

I have been using Classic Shell for only 3 days. It's the best thing since sliced bread. Many thanks to the developers. I am trying to organize my Start Menu programs into a few folders to keep it simple. I want to move the Office 2010 folder into another folder called "Work at home". I am using "Classic" style. I dragged a "custom" over into programs and renamed it "Work at Home". When I try to drag and drop the Office 2010 folder into the "Work at home" folder it does not go into the "Work at home" folder. It either goes above the folder or below the folder.

Before I installed Classic Shell I did move some of my, what I thought to be, Non critical user files off of my system drive onto my D: drive. I don't know if this would create my issue or not.
I feel sure that I am doing something incorrectly. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

You should not use a custom item for this. Right-click on any item in the Programs menu and select New Folder. This will create a new folder where you can drop any shortcuts you want.

All your Start Menu Program shortcuts are stored inside folders on your hard drive at 2 locations. Either the per-user Start Menu at %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu or the one for All Users at %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. So you just need to right click on any item inside the Programs menu and choose "New folder". Give it any name and then drag and drop 'Microsoft Office' to the folder. Or you can right click "All Programs" and choose Open or Open All to open these Start Menu Programs shortcut locations in Windows Explorer. Copy and paste or drag and drop any items as you want.

The Custom item on the Customize Start Menu tab is only for those items in the menu which are not stored on the file system.

Outstanding!!! Thank you so much.

Dummy me thought that it could all be done at the start menu “itself”. Once I went into %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu, it was a breeze.

Once again, Thank you very much.
