When I right-click on a link in the menu and click Properties > General, change the menu name to all caps and click OK, the text is not changed in the menu. Is there another way to do this, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help. |

What menu are you renaming? What is the old name and what is the new name? Where is the menu located inside the start menu? |

I am trying to rename File Explorer to FILE EXPLORER. It is located in the main menu (not a submenu). Larry |

If you go to the Properties again, does it show the new name? It is possible Windows ignores the new name because it is technically the same (Windows is not case-sensitive). You may try changing the name twice - first from "File Explorer" to "File Explorer2" and then to "FILE EXPLORER". |

I suspect it is due to desktop.ini being in one of the folders. Open %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools in an Explorer window and delete Desktop.ini. Thereafter you will be able to rename it and it will respect the case. Instead of deleting the whole Desktop.ini, you can also edit it using Notepad and change or delete the "File Explorer.lnk...." line. |

Changing from "File Explorer" to "File Explorer2" and then to "FILE EXPLORER" did not work, but thanks for the try. I have not been able to find a way to open %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools in an Explorer window. Not sure what to do with the %AppData%, and have not been able to locate the referenced file structure. More info on that, please? Thanks. |

Press the Win+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog and copy-paste %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools into it and press Enter. %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools is the same as C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools It stores the File Explorer shortcut and the desktop.ini file defines how all the shortcuts should show. If you delete the Desktop.ini file, it will allow you to rename it back to FILE EXPLORER minus the '2'. |

I tried those things, but still no luck. my desktop.ini file looks like this: [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21788 [LocalizedFileNames] computer.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12711 File Explorer.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22067 Control Panel.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12712 Run.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12710 Help.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12709 Command Prompt.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22022 Windows.Defender.lnk=@%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\EppManifest.dll,-1000 File Explorer (2).lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22067 Command Prompt (2).lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22022 The path is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools I deleted File Explorer.lnk and File Explorer (2).lnk individually, then together, then deleted the whole file. Thanks for the benefit of your expertise. Any other thoughts? BTW, this is a Windows 8.0 system. |

You don't need to delete File Explorer.lnk. ![]() |

As I said, I deleted the whole file previously, then restored it when it didn't work. Just tried it again, still no help. Is the path correct? The path is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools Thanks again for your help and patience. ![]() |

Oh ok. Did you try renaming File Explorer to FILE EXPLORER (in ALL CAPS) after deleting Desktop.ini? This works for me here on Windows 8. ![]() |

I have not tried this myself, but maybe renaming in the desktop.ini will work: Code: File Explorer.lnk=FILE EXPLORER

No, that doesn't work either. Guess I'm stuck with it. Thanks for all your help! |
