Post subject: | How to require double-clicking on a file to run it |
I have added a directory under Programs. Now Start | Programs | AutoIt scripts shows all the files in the F:\AutoIt scripts directory. That's great! But Win 7 tries to run an application on the file I single left click. This is not what I want, because there being many files in the directory, I wish to single click on the right-hand column of file names to reach a file that is near the end of the directory listing.( I can do this in Computer.) I have not found a way of reaching files that are near the end of the directory listing. At the moment, I am working on a 1024x768 screen. There are 133 objects in the directory. The right-hand column only shows partially: I can see only the first 4 or 5 characters of the file name in this column.

Not possible to activate items on double-click. In Explorer you can do two things - select and run. That's why it needs single and double clicks. A menu can only run things. Selection is not important. That's why a single click runs the item. Not possible to filter only specific extensions. You can hide the files you don't want, or create a directory that only has .au3 files or shortcuts to such. |

Thanks. You answered while I was editing. I quote my new stuff: Quote: I have not found a way of reaching files that are near the end of the directory listing. No. The menu only supports a vertical scrollbar (and only for a single column). |

Well if you use the Classic style menu or even in the Windows 7 style, if you change "All Programs" style to "Cascading sub-menu", then you can have multiple columns of submenus. Also, in a single column scrolling menu, you can press the Up arrow key to see the files directly at the end. |

I have "All Programs" style set to "Cascading sub-menu". I see four columns (of which the fourth only shows partially). So I think that I need a horizontal scroll bar to see file names that won't fit on the screen. |

Please try this option: Go to the General Behavior tab in Start Menu Settings and uncheck 'All columns are same size'. Then see if the fourth column fits. |

Unchecking All columns the same size has allowed me to see more of the file names in the fourth column. But still no scroll bar(s). |
