Is there a way of getting .au3 files to show in Programs?

.au3 files are AutoIt scripts. In Computer, double-clicking on one runs it.

What happens if you place such file in your Programs folder?

I figured out how to do it:
  • In the left column, click on Programs
  • In the right column, right click on Custom
  • Click on the only item there: Add to menu
  • In the left column, right-click on Custom. Custom appears at same level as Programs
  • In the left column, drag Custom on to Programs. Custom moves to be a level down from Programs
  • Right-click on Custom and choose Edit item
  • In Command, browse to the .au3 file
  • In Command, enter the Label to appear in Start Menu
  • In Command, browse to the Icon
I have recorded how I did it for the benefit of others.

Wouldn't it be easier to just drag the file to the Programs folder in the menu?

Many users seem to be unaware that any file can simply be copy-pasted inside %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

But doing so would offend the manager of my computer! He expects AutoIt scripts to be in the AutoIt Scripts folder.

Then create a shortcut to the file. That how the start menu works. The Programs folder doesn't actually contain programs. It contains shortcuts to such.
