Hello! I'm an user of Classic Menu since Windows 7 and now, on Windows 8.1. Never had a problem but, since I've upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1, a strange item appeared in the Classic Start Menu under Control Panel at the top. I've searched the Windows Registry and there are many entries related to it. In the Windows Control Panel the item is not shown. I have already tyied to delete the Windows Registry keys and then, Classic Menu Control Panel did not shown *any* entry at all. Some of the entries also disappeared from Windows Control Panel. I've restored a backup and everything is like before. Can you help me? Thanks.

Control Panel is a Windows component. Classic Shell does nothing to the Control Panel. From the screenshot, it looks like it's the ASUS RAID driver. |

I'm not saying Classic Start Menu messed anything into Windows. Just that into it's folder "Control Panel" is being "read" and "show" an entry that I cannot see into Windows Control Panel. Maybe a developer could say where/what is being "read" to post the information there. Thanks. |

All items in the control panel menu come from the OS. Maybe for some reason that item failed to provide a name and an icon, so the menu shows its internal GUID name. Do you see an item in Explorer that's missing in the menu? If so, that may be it. Also, if you select that item, what happens? |

If I click in the icon, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. If I right click the icon, Windows says there is no space to create the link for it... All items in the Explorer are ok, nothing seems to be strange. Googling the name of the key I've found a lot of mentions... {26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} seems to be the Control Panel itself. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683} "{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}" is the GUID for the Control Panel in Windows 7 64 bit |

But can you find an item in Explorer that doesn't show in the menu? |

Search for the other ID in the registry, the one that starts with E342F. Maybe you can find what it is related to, like some driver or software that is not completely installed or uninstalled. Another possibility is that a bad name was cached by the start menu. Exit the start menu, then go to %APPDATA%\ClassicShell and delete DataCache.db. Then restart ClassicStartMenu.exe. |

Maybe you can find what it is related to, like some driver or software that is not completely installed or uninstalled. Any guess about which one? There are many keys... The last time I've tried to delete keys I've messed the registry... More specifically, I've deleted that entries and ClassicMenu do not show anything into the ControlPanel menu. The major group in the middle are related to keys named "SyncSetupFolder", "SyncResultsFolder", "SyncCenterFolder", "ConflictFolder", but there are also "ControlPanelFolder". But they do not seem to be related to Windows Sync Center... I can't imagine other app that is putting an icon on Control Panel related to Sync. Although I use PureSync, I never saw an icon of it into Control Panel. Ivo wrote: Another possibility is that a bad name was cached by the start menu. Exit the start menu, then go to %APPDATA%\ClassicShell and delete DataCache.db. Then restart ClassicStartMenu.exe. That did not work. The icon is there yet... Thanks for your help.

Check at both places: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{E342F0FE-FF1C-4c41-BE37-A0271FC90396} and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace\{E342F0FE-FF1C-4c41-BE37-A0271FC90396}. Backup the key '{E342F0FE-FF1C-4c41-BE37-A0271FC90396}' if present and then delete it. The fact that it shows up in Control Panel means it has to be at one of the above two locations. |
