Post subject: | Folder Link as Submenu |
I just started using Classic Start Menu on Win7 Prof. 64 bit in "Windows 7 style" and am very happy with it. I have one question: I know I can add an existing folder via "Cusomize Start menu" in the Classic Start Menu settings. This folder/subfolder items can be displayed as menu which is really great. I can also add a folder to the start menu and add links to programs and files. But can I also add an existing folder to a menu/folder in the startmenu and have this behaviour (display as menu)? I have not found this - when I add an exsisting folder as link, it is not shown as (sub-)menu. It always opens in explorer. So is this possible and if so, how? Any help is appreciated. |

Yes it is possible using a trick. ![]() 1. Right click the folder you want to add as expanding menu and click Copy. 2. Open the folder: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu and right click an empty area and click "Paste shortcut" (or use the Paste shortcut command on the Classic Explorer toolbar). 3. This creates a special symbolic link shortcut to the folder. It works only for %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu meaning this link can only be created if the shortcut is pasted in the Start Menu folder. 4. However, once this link is created, now you can cut this shortcut and paste it anywhere inside any folder in the Start Menu. It will expand as a cascading menu. |

Wow, thanks, works great. A little bit strange that it only works for the start menu and that you don't see the difference, but this seems to be one of Microsofts secrets... |
