I am not sure which setting has this effect, but when I try the "startscreen" shortcut, it just opens up the start menue rather than going to the metro start screen. Any suggestions you might have. I have Windows 8.1. |

What version of Classic Shell are you using? |

Weird, that should work. Save your settings to XML file and attach it here. |

I don't see anything abnormal in your settings. Try few things: Press Shift+Win and tell me what happens Set a custom shortcut for the start screen (the setting is near the bottom of the Controls tab) to Ctrl+Alt+Q. Then close the settings and press Ctrl+Alt+Q. What happens? |

I tried both you said, and both take me to the start screen. A quick note: I just tried the "Show Start.exe" from (http://www.7tutorials.com/download-shor ... en-desktop) and it also opens the start menu rather than the start screen. |

There is only one other thing I can think of. Maybe you upgraded from version 4.0.0, which had problems with its start screen shortcut for some people. You can refresh the shortcut by: 1) Uncheck the setting "Show Start screen shortcut" 2) Open the start menu and ensure that the start screen item is gone 3) Check the setting "Show Start screen shortcut" back 4) Try again |

Yes, that (upgrading) was the case. I did as you said and now the shortcut on the start menu works just fine. However, I copied the shortcut to the desktop and the one on the desktop just opens the start menu. |

Right. I don't know why for some people the stand-alone shortcut doesn't work. It works for me. It is doing the exact same thing as the new method, but from an external process. By chance, are you using a 32-bit Windows? |

Hi! I'm having the same issue with standalone shortcuts to start screen. I'd like to place one in the taskbar, but it simply opens the start menu. Any idea how to work around this? I've been messing about with the shortcuts and noticed that, for some reason, the only way to get the shortcut working even from inside the start menu is to check the box that creates it in Classic Shell settings. I've tried duplicating the shortcut created by Classic Shell, but only the original is working even when the duplicate is placed in exactly the same directory as the original (which of course wouldn't solve the problem anyway). I've also tried deleting the original and renaming the duplicate so that the duplicate would be identical with the original but it still no luck. Somehow, only the shortcut created by Classic Shell does the job, but only from inside the start menu. I wonder what would happen if Classic Shell could place the shortcut straight into the taskbar. Anyway, big thanks for making Win 8 usable! |

If you create this shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe" -togglenew and pin it to the Taskbar, it should take you to the Metro Start screen. |

Thanks for the reply. For some reason the shortcut doesn't work for me, as it opens the start menu instead of Metro screen. The only shortcut that works is the one placed in the start menu by Classic shell, even though the one you suggested is identical. |
