I see that Classic Shell with work with Windows Server 2012 but will it work with Windows MultiPoint Server 2012?

Well, a user reported previously that it worked on MultiPoint Server 2010 (which was based on Server 2008 R2): http://sourceforge.net/p/classicshell/discussion/1049756/thread/14b5d26b/

Since MultiPoint Server 2012 is based on Server 2012 and only uses RDP, you could try if it works. I don't think anyone would have tested it but if the Explorer codebase is the same, then it *should* work, there is no reason it won't work unless the binaries and address spaces are different. Report here please if you do test it. :) For the Shutdown menu, you might need to enable the option: "Show Shutdown during remote sessions"

We'll likely try it later in October when the office converts. If so, I'll definitely let you know how it works.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi

Sorry if this is a "hijack", thought I'd offer some debugging info.

For me the install hangs on multipoint 2012 with "create shortcuts" selected, but succeeds if this option is deselected. I've attached an installer log file for each scenario.

AV was disabled for the duration of the install.

I needed to kill the setup and installer to break out of the install (not logged).

Kind regards

Dave

I do not see any errors in the log. Probably the errors weren't saved before the installer was killed.
It probably fails to create the start menu folder. Do you have a folder called C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs?
Also, you may get more detailed info from Process Monitor. It will show what operation fails.

Interesting. The shortcuts are created by Classic Shell's installer for All Users. I wonder if it is possible that MultiPoint Server 2012 behaves differently so programs don't have permissions to create shortcuts in the All users Start Menu folder. This seems unlikely though as it will break a lot of programs.

Are other shortcuts created by other programs that use MSI there at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs?
