Hello,

I updated Classic Start to 4.0, and noticed all my settings were lost.
Then I tried to load a XML backup with my settings and absolutely nothing changes.

Any word on this?
Thanks.

This is supposed to work. Attach your XML file here and give a few examples of which settings fail to update.

Seems to be working. It picked the single column style, Shift+Click and Shift+Win are disabled, the menus use multiple columns, etc.

The menu items are customized according to the XML - the Documents menu is gone, the Shutdown menu is trimmed down, etc.

One thing that doesn't get restored is the skin and its settings. This is a known issue already reported in another thread.

Right, the button is also gone because the Metro button setting is not supported anymore. It was removed between versions 3.6.7 and 3.6.8.

I updated to 4.0 and all my settings were retained. I even uninstalled the previous version and rebooted before running the new installer. I never did a backup so didn't have an XML file.

However, my previous version was the 3.9.3 beta so that may be why my results were different.

Yes, we are specifically talking about upgrading from Classic Shell 3 (versions before 3.9.0) and Classic Shell 4 (versions 3.9.0 and up).

The addition of "styles" has caused some incompatibility between the old and the new settings. That's because each style has its own independent skin settings.

When upgrading from 3.9.3 you should not see any such issues.

Btw seyss, you can get the Metro button back by downloading its image and setting it as a custom button from here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=802 It had to be removed because of Microsoft's request that it resembled the Windows logo which is a trademark.
