Hi,

Currently we are testing Classic Start Menu in combination with RDS 2012. It is looking promising, but there seems to be one major issue. When a new user logs in (no profile yet) it takes more than 1 minute before the desktop shows (without Classic Start Menu installed, this is less than 10 seconds). Somehow, Classic Start Menu adds significant time when logging in for the first time. All subsequent logos are fast (the user has an existing profile at that time). What could be the cause of this? Could there be timing issues or something?

Apart from this issue, the software is very good and complete. We have tested other (start menu replacement) software as well, but that does not come even close to all the features and options that you provide.

I also liked the option that enables an administrator to move settings from HKCU to HKLM to make them global. In that case, users are not able to change settings (a lock appears) that you want to manage centrally!

Thanks.

Are you able to somehow capture a dump while this is happening using the procdump tool?
If attempt try to do it, please use either version 3.6.7 or 3.9.0. I have accidentally lost the debug files for version 3.6.8 :(
Also, if you haven't done so yet, try version 3.9.0. It has a ton of performance improvements.

Hi Ivo,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Wow, I've tested with the new beta version 3.9.0 and the problem does not occur! This is good news. What is the expected timeline for this new version? I will do some additional tests and provide feedback if relevant.

Thanks.

The plan is to release version 3.9.1 this weekend. Windows 8.1 comes out soon, and with it I will release another beta (more like RC). When that one checks out there will be an official release 4.0.
At the moment people have reported very few problems with 3.9.0, and most of them are fixed in 3.9.1.
