Using "Pin to Start menu (Classic Shell)" w/ Win7 style is not working without having either "Recent Programs" or "Frequent Programs" enabled. If either of the two are disabled, it pins to the "All Programs" list instead. The workaround I've found was to enable either recent/frequent programs, then select "Pin to Start menu (Classic Shell)" on what you want pinned, then disable recent/frequent.

If this is the intended nature (which wasn't the case in actual Win7), can there be an option made to "Show Only Pinned"?

Thanks! :)

I am only able to reproduce a similar problem in one case. That's when the Settings dialog is opened and you change the "Pinned Programs folder" setting. Then pinning from Explorer will send shortcuts to the wrong place. This is because the settings are not saved to the registry until you press OK in the Settings dialog. The pinning tool is a separate component and it doesn't know about the changes to the settings until they are saved.

If you can consistently reproduce this problem without having the settings opened at the time, save your settings to XML file and attach it here.

Thanks for the fast response. I tried resetting all settings, uninstalling, reinstalling, and can reproduce every time. It is only pinning to the "All Programs" list for me. No settings dialogues open. I have attached my xml.

Edit: Odd. I assume there is supposed to be a lot more in that XML file?

It works fine for me (Windows 8 Pro, x64, with Classic Shell 4.0). I was able to go to C:\Windows and pin Explorer.exe just fine. Pinning some exes from the desktop also worked.

What is it you are trying to pin?

BTW, the XML file contains only the non-default settings (shown bold).

I was trying to pin Firefox, Roboform, Winamp, pretty much anything & it wouldn't pin to the correct place. Anyway... I installed 4.0 and it's working perfectly now. Thanks for your help. :)
