Hello,

I recently installed Classic Shell 3.6.7 on Windows 7 Professional (64-bit, SP1) with the following options:

Skin: <no skin>
All Programs Skin: <no skin>

I've also set "Windows Classic" theme in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Personalization.

Everything seems to be working fine, but I'd like some feedback on the following warnings I'm now seeing in the Windows 7 Event Viewer:

Event 9003, Desktop Window Manager
The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use.

Event 6000, Winlogon
The winlogon notification subscriber <SessionEnv> was unavailable to handle a notification event.

Thanks.

The Windows Classic theme does not use the DWM in Windows 7/Vista. That's normal. As for the Classic Shell 'Skin' there is a classic skin available which I recommend. Settings the skin to <no skin> will give an inferior Start Menu experience.

Thanks for letting me know about DWM and Windows Classic theme.

For some reason, Performance Options -> Visual Effects -> desktop composition was disabled in Windows, but the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service was still set to "Automatic". After disabling the service and rebooting, the DWM event error went away.

Thanks for recommending the Classic Shell "Classic Skin". I'll try it out.
