I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 Media Center Edition, my husband has a laptop running Windows 8.1. We both have Classic Shell 4.2.1 installed. He has an extra tab on his Menu settings called Special Items I do not, can anyone tell me why that is please? Yes, I have the show all settings box checked.

His settings are: Start Menu Style | Controls | Special Items | Main Menu
My Settings are: Start Menu Style | Controls | Main Menu

Apart from the Special Items tab, everything else is exactly the same.

Both Classic Shell installations are exactly the same version so why don't I have the Special Items tab and he does?

You are using the Windows 7 style and he's using the Classic style.
For the Windows 7 style you should use the "Customize Start Menu" tab to choose what items show in the menu.
