Evening everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to create a Tab Key index for a custom skin on the Start Menu.
By this I mean detailing which items to select and in which order by pressing the Tab Key.

Without Classic Start Menu running (on Win7) pressing the Winkey, brings up the Start Menu with the Search box focused; pressing Tab then cycles through various options. For me this goes:
  1. User Documents
  2. Shutdown
  3. ??? (Seems to have selected nothing)
  4. All Programs
  5. Search Box
With my custom skin I just get stuck in the search box.

Basically I'm a lazy git who rather liked hitting Winkey -> U -> Enter to shutdown (have got this working this on my custom skin) but still want to be able to use my 'workplace' shortcut of Winkey -> Tab -> Tab -> Enter as I seem incapable of remembering whether I'm at home or the office.

Cheers!

Sadly, not currently; The arrow keys work though they are on the other side of the keyboard, which really breaks 1 handed usability, but its better than nothing..

As of Classic Shell 4.1.0, only the Windows 7 style of the Classic Start Menu has the Tab key order you mention. If you use the "Classic with two columns" style, it won't work. From the search box which is selected by default, pressing Tab selects the first item in the right column, then the Shutdown button, then the first item in the left column, then All Programs and then back to the search box. This order is the same as the Windows 7 Start Menu.

It might be possible that for the custom skin for which you say the tab key just gets stuck in the search box, you have created a Classic with two columns skin. (*.skin extension). You must create a skin based on the Windows 7 style (*.skin7 extension) for tab key order to work.

As Jcee mentioned, you can use another way to get to the Shutdown button. Win key -> Right arrow key -> Enter. Or Win key -> Left arrow key -> Enter.

Cheers for the replies.

I guess that's pretty much what I expected. I guess I shall endeavour to not be quite so lazy!

Thanks again!
