I tend to be keyboard-centric and would like to change the following setting in Win 8.1 with the (life-saver) Classic Shell to what I used in Win 7.

In Win 7, if I press Winkey, right arrow, right arrow it did the following:

Winkey - opens the Start Menu
right-arrow - highlights Shutdown
right-arrow - highlights Sleep
enter - activates sleep mode

In Win 8.1 with Classic Shell the second press of the right-arrow key opens the sub-menu but highlights the top of the list (Switch User) instead of the bottom of the list (Sleep).

Is there a registry hack that I can use to 'correct' that behaviour please?

As of Classic Shell version 4.1.0, it is not possible to change the order of items in the Shutdown menu in the Windows 7 style of the Start Menu. It is doable in the Classic or Classic with two columns styles. For Classic with two columns style, go to the Customize Start Menu tab and move the items under Shutdown up or down as you want in the left column.

For the Windows 7 style, there is a setting called "Shutdown menu items" on the Main Menu tab using which you can add only the commands you want and omit the ones you don't want. But the only way you can get Sleep to be selected by default is if you omit logoff, lock, restart and switch_user from the list and keep only shutdown,sleep,hibernate,disconnect,windows_security,undock.

The "Shutdown menu items" setting ignores the order of commands as of version 4.1.0. Maybe in a future release, the menu could respect the order in which the commands are entered, so none of the commands have to be omitted, but that's up to Ivo (the developer) to decide.

If the Sleep command is the one you need most, then just make it the default: Win, right arrow, Enter.

Thanks GauravK and Ivo. For the time being, switching Shutdown and Sleep will have to suffice. Hopefully, being able to change the sub-menu order in a future version would be a useful but minor enhancement.
