I have a problem I haven't seen in this forum. I posted a question to the Microsoft community and I thought I would post here, too.

I have installed classic shell on my windows 8.1 computer. When I log into my user account I get a windows 7 desktop. I have shortcuts on my desktop and also pinned to my task bar. Recently I clicked on the google chrome icon on the task bar and something new happened. Instead of directly opening google chrome, a blank screen opened with a much smaller task bar. I assume it is a windows 8 screen. I then need to once again click on the goolgle chrome shortcut on the new screen. Then google chrome opens. It operates pretty erratically, sometimes not working at all. When I am finished using google chrome and want to go back to the windows 7 desktop, I must point my arrow at the upper left hand corner of the screen in order to get a miniature picture of my windows 7 desktop -- I click that and return to the windows 7 desktop.

Interestingly, when I log in on the computer's guest account, none of the above happens. I can click on the google chrome shortcut and it opens within the windows 7 desktop just as it used to do in my own user account.

This is a new HP laptop. I called HP support and they told me they could not help me with google chrome problems. I told them it was not a google chrome problem, but was instead a windows and HP problem, but they still refused to help me except for a fee.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions?

It looks like Chrome is launching in Metro mode. Press Alt+F or the button with the three horizontal lines on the top right side inside Chrome, then choose "Relaunch Chrome in desktop mode".
