Hi all,
The most aggravating thing about new programs , no matter how wonderful and important they are ( especially this one! ) - is knowing the
terminology.
I have found you folks here, thankfully before I tossed this computer because of , you guessed it: ... Windows 8 !!
*
I would like this new laptop to start with Classic shell automatically going/ operational each time I open the computer.
Right now, I start this laptop , but windows 8.1 is running , I then must:
1- click on the classic shell icon,
2-opens, and immediately close the context menu window that shows all options.

I simply do not know what option to adjust to get this great program to open up on it's own.

SOOOO, how do I do this ????

Thanks for understanding, but maybe if this has been asked before then maybe the programmers need to have a glossary of terms ???

Cheers, Gregk.

Open the start menu settings, go to the Windows 8.1 tab and check "Skip Metro screen".

Tx. for the quick reply, but I already had that box checked . It does start without the metro screen, but the windows icon is still
in the bottom left corner- so something is missing in the commands in Classic Shell.
Because if you click that bottom left corner windows icon , it will bring back the metro 8.1 window. Now this is what we want to avoid !!
*
So, the question again is: how do we get the Classic shell icon to appear on the bottom left corner when we open up our
laptop computer ?????

I know it's a simple fix, but something is missing. I can only get the bottom classic shell icon and classic shell working ONLY if I click on the program
Classic shell .exe and then have to click the shell window 'OK' button.
Tx for any help. Gk.

Right click the Start button -> Settings. Check "Show all settings" and go to the Controls tab. Set "Left click opens" to "Classic Start Menu" and click OK.

If you don't want the Windows logo button and instead want the Classic Shell logo button, open the same settings window and go to the Styles tab and pick a Start button there.

ok, i've had nothing but frustration with classic shell and suggested explanations.
would someone be very specific here.
I start up my laptop and it opens up with windows 8.1
*
My settings are set as to what was suggested above in the 2 above messages.
what can the explanation be - why doesn't classic shell open up when i start up the computer ????????????????
*
thanks in advance. gk.

Right now the only way I can get classic shell to open is to reinstall the classic shell program by clicking on the icon on my desktop screen.
My settings are: in the classic shell program:
main window : settings for classic shell 4.1.0 , -> controls -> left click opens: ''classic start menu''
and also: shift+click opens: classic start menu AND
windows key opens: classic start menu AND
middle click opens: classic start menu AND
shift + win opens: classic start menu,
in General Behavior: 'start automatically for this user' = checked.

*
ALSO: the first suggestion: ' skip metro screen ' in 'windows 8.1 settings = checked, Result = not working...

Suggestions Anyone ?????

Let's first try to determine what exactly is happening.
When you log in, do you go to the Metro screen or to the desktop?
When you go to the desktop for the first time and click on the start button, what happens?

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply and interest !
1-I open up this windows 8.1 onto the 'desktop';
2- then it shows the typical windows 8-start button,
3- I left click on this 'start' button and the metro tiles appear, upon
re-clicking it again, I get my desktop screen....suggestions ....

Hope this helps....

OK, download the Classic Shell Utility from here: http://classicshell.net/downloads/
Run it, let it save a log file, and send the file to me.
