Hello.
I'm trying to get my head around what glyphs are, and if they can be used in the Classic Start Menu.
I remember a request a long time ago from somebody.

From what I see, most of the glyph pictures used throughout Windows 10,
look a lot like what is in the "Character Map" using the font "Segoe MDL2 Assets".

Is there a way to use them in second column of Win 7 style?
I can see why some people like having an icon or glyph beside the text.
Probably because we humans are lazy, and like peripheral view. :)
Why look far up to see the picture user/icon, and then back to the text again?

Anyway, is there a provision to enable the Character map in "Customize Start Menu"?
Like some kind of letter/symbol to tell CSM to use Segoe MDL2 Assets, along with regular label text?

Good idea. Mind if I try to steal it for Start9? :3

The Segoe UI Symbols font in 8.1 also has some of them but I think they are in the Private Use Area of the Unicode font. Copying them and pasting them into the Run dialog for example does not show them on my PC. In apps like Notepad, WordPad, they show of course.

It's not mine to steal from. Maybe Tihiy from Startisback, will give to you for free.

Hi all.

It was worth asking about it, just to see if there is a way.
Seemed so simple just copying to Notepad, or MS Word.
It acts like an icon, that can change size, still look sharp, but is like a text font, and is better than a static screenshot.

I briefly looked at microsoft.com and stackoverflow.com sites.
As always, there has to be lots of programming behind the scenes, that the user does not know about.

And that would need to be coded into Classic Shell program.
But I don't think Ivo has time right now, figuring out latest WIN10 update disaster with lots of bugs, that Microsoft left in. :)

I'm still waiting for MS to fix bug in Magnifier application. Can take 2 to 30 seconds for it to change magnification size.
It was instant before update.

Well it's not the same exactly but instead of using icons, if you use Unicode text symbols, you can have some glyphs in Windows 7-style, 2nd column as well.

If in the future, Ivo can add support for color fonts which are supported using DirectWrite on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, we can have full color emojis. Then fonts like Segoe UI Symbol or Segoe UI Emoji can be used.

Here are the glyphs for easy copy-pasting if anyone wants to use them in the Classic Start Menu.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5091#p33545

Note: These glyphs will display properly on Windows 7 and up with the Segoe UI Symbol font present. You might want to change the font used in your skin(s) to Segoe UI Symbol. The rest of the non-glyph characters should display the same as regular Segoe UI.
