I'm new to classic shell and was wondering if it is possible to make the luna skin for windows 7 menu (Windows 7 menu just luna themed)

If so can someone make it?

I was going to make one, way back, but was thinking, without icons available in second column,
and user picture can only be in second column, it is not that classic.

I think Splitwirez was itching to port a Win7 style XPskin from Deviant, but maybe did not get the artist's approval?

Now is your chance to go for it yourself, and learn to skin!

I've been meaning to do this for a while now. I guess I finally have a reason.

It'll be done soon.

Adding this to entice Splitwirez, or anybody else interested.

If someone wants to use this xp icon look, on their own 7 style XP skin, go ahead.

One bitmap is the selector with built in shutdown icon.
The log off icon turned into the shutdown arrow.
You can play around with it on another Win 7 style skin.
Just copy and paste the script text over to bottom of .skin7 file
add the bitmaps with the same numbers to match.

The screen shot is XP Blue BBT revB.skin renamed to XP Blue BBT revB.skin7
Would definitely require to be converted properly to make it all function correctly. :lol:

OPTION XP_ICONS="XP Shutdown icons",0

[XP_ICONS]
; Shutdown button
Shutdown_selection=111
Shutdown_search_selection=111
Shutdown_jump_selection=111
Shutdown_selection_slices_X=28,2,3,1,4,1
Shutdown_selection_slices_Y=1,1,28
Shutdown_padding=0,9,0,2,100%
Shutdown_text_padding=35,7,10,6,100%
Shutdown_icon_padding=5,3,-5,3,100%
Shutdown_text_color=#FFFFFF,#FFFFFF
Shutdown_search_text_color=#FFFFFF,#FFFFFF
Shutdown_jump_text_color=#FFFFFF,#FFFFFF
Shutdown_arrow=112
Shutdown_search_arrow=112
Shutdown_jump_arrow=112
Shutdown_arrow_padding=3,3,100%
Shutdown_selection_mask=0
Shutdown_selection_search_mask=0
Shutdown_selection_jump_mask=0
Shutdown_font="Segoe UI",normal,-10

Here is additional hdpi same thing set.
It's really only 32 size icons, not 48 size.

Example on Aero 7 style skin at 144 hdpi.
Funny eh?

Already making progress. I should have a screeny or something soon.

Anyone want optional glass colour? :lol:

(Actually, speaking of colour...is it possible to use metro colours in masks for bitmaps? And can it be done in an optional manner which allows the skin to function on Windows 7 so long as it is disabled? ._. )

Well, a mask can use a Metro color, but that would not make much sense because the masks are not really colors. The RGB channels have a different meaning.
If a skin uses Metro colors it won't work on Windows 7. You will get a message about incompatible skin.

I know. I was just asking if it was possible to use a mask to control where metro colours appear as overlays onto the bitmap, since prior to this I had only seen such masks used for Glass colour.

You can mix a bitmap and up to 3 Metro colors using the tints. Take a look at some examples in the Metro skin.

This last version B is about as close as I can make it, but still interacts,
because it's a single button.
It kind of has the changing brightness and movement of original icons.

And now, it is time to give up.
Goodnight.

To offset the loss of icons in column #2, maybe you could increase the padding and colorize the text like I did in this minor mod of the Luna skin: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4730

Yes. Anything that can help give a little bit of the Classic XP look,
can go a long way to the feel of it.

Different text size in each column. -9 /-10
Different font semiboldness levels
Blue colors on second column text and arrows

If everyone used default XP settings, one size icons could be embedded into the skin,
with text padding to accommodate the icons space. That is not gonna happen.
We are all different, and use the start menu a thousand different ways.

Looking good though. Keep going Splitwirez, and others.
Getting closer.

Addition.
If you are going to use the icon shutdown button,
I screwed up on the font size.
I put it as -10. The original might be -9 or even-8.
If font size is changed, its text padding height,
would have to increase to get the hover select color, proper height again.

If you haven't done it already,
I can provide the parts for Luna scrollbar, for inside menu.
It's all set up ready to go with script text included.

Ah good. zip worked this time. :D

I love that Blue XP scrollbar :D I wish juniper7's beautiful Plex Replay7 revC.skin7 had it. :)

Oh my god thank you
Now I have somewhere to start whilst I learn how to do custom scrollbars for CSM Start Menus (Which is kind of a big deal since the skins I create to go with my Visual Styles always end up looking terrible with the opaque whitish scrollbars included in the Visual Styles themselves)

Hmm maybe it would look out of place with the Plex skin due to color mismatch.

Speaking of the most beautiful menu, XP Luna,
is Splitwirez going to release his 7 version soon?
Been close to half a year, with your screenshot. :)

I've started to work on my own with the parts that were released.
I have problems though.
One of them is, I can't figure out how to change the size of the search view list arrow.
Had same problem on Starfox skin.

The color appears to get from Main text color. But to replace with a different size bitmap,
has tied me in knots.

Tried all these, and got no change.
List_arrow=25
List_split_arrow=25
List_separator_arrow=25
List_separator_split_arrow=25

I see another 7 skin has "List_arrow_padding=5,7,100%"
There must be some word to link it up. :(

OH MY G :o

We are so totally on the same page for the shutdown icons. :lol:

I'm proceeding to make the HDPI one.

Gets so complicated, gonna take a week to get everything to jive.

Looks like you're going for the three color version.

That is a nice start Splitwirez. On my HiDPI screen, there are some glitches (the Paint item is actually selected in the pic)

Looks like mine at rev C. I'm at rev G now.
Hundreds of adjustments made, many more to follow.

Splitwirez, rip apart and use any parts of the High DPI Luna skins I made.

Do you realize how many menu bitmaps to make for 3 color menus with 100%, 150% size?
Qty 18 :|
I'm only making blue color with 100, 125, 150%, and reusing main bitmaps as jumps.
Mine adds up to, , awh shoot, forgot about reduced top. Then mine will have qty 12, and yours 36 :o

I'm thinking of putting that offset user picture, like in your Plexcellent skin. :)
I have only made ones on the right before. Never way over to left.
I'll give it a try once everything else gels. This skin is going to burn me out, for sure. :lol:

Hi Splitwirez

All the extra HiDPI text and images does take away from the fun spirit of making a skin.
Very tedious. Kind of like real work. Sometimes a job is fun, other times doing the same work order
hundreds of times, makes me want to stay in bed the whole day. :lol:

Getting back to the spirit of it.
Not everyone has High DPI screens, so may not matter.

Hey, have you thought about what I said far above post, about screenshot put in menu.
It might actually work! Checkout fake picture. Only one text size would work in second column,
or it would go out of alignment. First column any size. 2nd column font type need to be perfect too.
I'm not trying this out in the menu I'm making though. Too complex already.

It could be taken to an extreme.
One could have qty ten icon emblem locations on second column.
Each one could be user replaceable in the skin options.

Finished the Luna 7 style skins. Here they are:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3025&p=30741#p30740

I feel like MacGyver making them. :)
I will now put away my pocket knife , and piece of string.
I'm done, toasted, and burnt out. Next skin in 6 months. :lol:
