I understand the technical difficulties with giving glass, color control, etc. to the Metro skin due to font colors and contrast (among other issues). However, what about being able to provide the default color (dark gray) in addition to following the theme color? In other words, Windows 10 has the option to 'Show color on Start, taskbar and Action Center'. I'd love if Classic Start Menu also followed this option and used the highlight color when that setting is enabled and the default dark gray color when not enabled. I've attached a screenshot of the setting in case that's not clear.

Thanks,

ArrJay

The Metro skin doesn't just use the selected color. It uses the entire palette of associated colors for highlights, selections, and text color, and more.

While it is technically possible to add an option to use gray background, it will also need appropriate colors for everything else. This will work much better as a separate skin. You can create a copy of the Metro skin and replace all of the variable system colors with specific colors.

You can also try the classic skin. It uses the system menu color, which is often gray.
