Is there anyway to restore the find files feature that was found in Win95/98/NT4/Win2k/WinXP?

I've had Win7 about 1 week but the find files is practically useless. Something wrong if I could find a file quicker in 20 year old Win95 than I can on Win10.

The main truths are:-
a) index based search is unreliable
b) it searches the wrong drives/to time consuming to goto separate dialog to select
c) the user interface is horrendous.

Is there anyway to restore the old find files.. if not could a small tool be made to emulate classic find files?

I've tried Win10 and it is just as bad.

There are few file search programs out there. Agent Ransack and Everything are among the most popular.

You could also try FileSearchEX (http://goffconcepts.com/products/filesearchex/) but it's a paid program unlike FileLocator Lite or Everything which are free. But FileSearchEX is very similar to classic XP/Windows 2000 search. (Besides I gave its developer some UX feedback too) to make it awesome. ;)
