Is there anyway to restore the find files feature that was found in Win95/98/NT4/Win2k/WinXP? I've had Win7 about 1 week but the find files is practically useless. Something wrong if I could find a file quicker in 20 year old Win95 than I can on Win10. The main truths are:- a) index based search is unreliable b) it searches the wrong drives/to time consuming to goto separate dialog to select c) the user interface is horrendous. Is there anyway to restore the old find files.. if not could a small tool be made to emulate classic find files? I've tried Win10 and it is just as bad. |

There are few file search programs out there. Agent Ransack and Everything are among the most popular. |

You could also try FileSearchEX (http://goffconcepts.com/products/filesearchex/) but it's a paid program unlike FileLocator Lite or Everything which are free. But FileSearchEX is very similar to classic XP/Windows 2000 search. (Besides I gave its developer some UX feedback too) to make it awesome. ![]() |
