Is there a way to make the start button toggle the open/closed state of the menu like the default in Windows? Right now if I want to close the menu I have to click elsewhere on the desktop which sometimes may have an undesirable effect depending on what other windows I may have open. This behavior is happening in 8.1 in case that matters. I am in tablet mode with only touch at the moment so maybe if I right click with a mouse I will get different options or is it a registry edit?

Left clicking the Start button again with the mouse or an empty area of the taskbar closes the Start menu if it's open. I don't know about touch screen though because I don't have a Windows x86 tablet to test this.

Yes you are correct. I just tested it and it works correctly with a mouse but with touch it flashes closed and right back on again as if it thinks it is a double click. Anyway you guys could look into that?

Try Classic Shell 4.0.6. The Start button now supports touch and you can also scroll single-column menus with a finger. You can increase the size of icons from the Menu Look tab in Settings if you want.
