I'd like to propose two features:
  • selecting additional folders to search for shortcuts (i.e. in win7 and default menu it was easy to simply select those folder in indexing options and they would simply pop into search results) - it's easier to manage your shortcuts in C:\shortcuts instead of some deep path; it also allows to have those shortcuts easily available to other apps (rocket dock for example)
  • an option to show search results and sub-menus in a manner similar to windows7 - i.e. everything as part of the menu view without displaying submenus outside of the start menu view.

#1. Hmm. Feedback noted, but no promises (due to many feature requests from many users).

#2. This will require many major changes for actually what we feel is a step back (just to make it like Windows 7 style). They are shown to the right so that more programs or search results can be shown, even in multiple columns if required. Even for single column, the list is scrollable. The Windows 7 style shows them in a constrained area (which MS fixed in Windows 8).

#1 thanks, I was tryin to play with %PATH% - that didn't work and also with symlinks - it seems that CSM can't search in those too

#2 well, most of the time my results are quite accurate (within ~5items) therefore I've never felt constrained and look introduced in win7 felt somewhat "better" (?!) - it didn't spawn it's area more and was more predictable :)

yes, it's about searchbox and no, it's just looking through PATH system variable but putting shortcuts there doesn't help...
