Post subject: | Recent documents for applications pane width |
Hi, I am used to having vertical taskbar glued to the right side of the screen. The problem is with apps that show recently opened docs (i.e.: Word, Excel, Paint.NET). For those, the 'Recent' pane is wider than the regular pane, which together with vertical right-handed taskbar position causes the menu to jump around, making clicking tricky. Here are 2 screenshots to represent what I am talking about: Default pane: ![]() Expanded pane: ![]() Hopefully the difference in width is visible So I'd like to request one of the following: - add setting to set 'Recent' documents pane Max width - add setting to set the width for both columns in Win7 Menu skin - add setting to disable showing recent docs for apps. Many thanks, M |

This happens because the per-app recent documents (called jumplists) are part of the main menu in Windows 7 style. You can try the two already available options: 1. There is already a setting to disable showing recent docs for app. Open Start Menu settings. In the search box, type: jumplists and uncheck "Enable jumplists". OR 2. You can use the "Classic with 2 columns" style menu where recent documents submenu opens to the left as it is not part of the main menu. |

Great, I can live without recent docs - so disabling jumplists will work for me just fine. Thanks a lot! |

There is also an item in the Start Menu's right column called "Recent Items" which is a combined list of all Recent Documents, which you can sort by date, name, or extension from Start Menu Settings. |

I know the behavior you describe is not ideal, but that's exactly the behavior you get in Windows 7 (which the Windows 7 style is trying to replicate). |

There is a new hidden setting added in Classic Shell 4.0.4 to change the jumplist width of the Start Menu in Windows 7 style: HKCU\Software\IvoSoft\ClassicStartMenu\Settings. DWORD value: JumplistWidth. The value data should be entered in decimals. Delete the value to revert to the default jumplist width. This setting is also there in Classic Shell's Group Policy settings: "Jumplist pane width". You must exit the Start Menu and start it again from C:\Program Files\Classic Shell\ClassicStartMenu.exe. You can reduce it or increase it. If you set JumplistWidth to 25 (Decimal), the width will be the same as the right column. |
